Synopsis

In the final game for the Triple-A crown against the Falcons—bottom of the 10th, two outs, runners on second and third—Goro faces Gibson Jr. and unleashes his first 100-mph pitch since Game 1 on the fifth offering. Recognizing Goro as a "Maximum" player who summons his greatest power in a pinch, Jr. answers with two straight fouls, sending the fated at-bat to a seventh pitch. When Goro's grueling first year in America ends, news arrives of a Baseball World Cup. As sixteen nations gather for the grand stage, Goro's new challenge begins in Volume 54.

The final game is settled after both sides pour out every ounce of strength, bringing Goro's rookie Triple-A season to a close. Back home, Goro learns of the world-scale Baseball World Cup and his heart races. But he isn't selected for Japan's national training camp, and he faces the reality that he can't simply leap onto the main stage. Undeterred, Goro chooses to join the national team as a batting-practice pitcher. Feeling the gap between himself and old rivals and the world's top players, and carrying a decade of longing, he begins the run-up to a new chapter aiming for the world's summit.
